Homeless Pets
Each year in the First Coast area, more than 30,000 cats and dogs are
killed, many of them simply because there are not enough homes. Every
time a dog or cat is allowed to breed (even if good homes are found
for all of their offspring), shelter pets are killed because there are
no homes for them.
You can help the
Jacksonville area’s dog and cat overpopulation problem. Find out
how by visiting First
Coast No More Homeless Pets, Inc., a 501 C (3) non profit organization
focusing in helping families spay and neuter their pets through free
and low-cost programs.
Since 2003, FCNMHP
has facilitated over 21,000 dog and cat sterilizations in the First
Coast area. Local shelter pet intake has been reduced by 31%, with puppy
intake decreasing approximately 44% and kitten intake reducing by approximately
52%. Prior to the initiation of FCNMHP programs, shelter euthanasia
and admissions were increasing by as much as 20% annually.
